The year 2020 has been disappointing for entire of mankind. It has been Topsy turvy and has thrown up more surprises than the previous decade combined. How could IPL have not contributed to that? What if we told you at the start that within 2 weeks, CSK will be at the bottom of the table and RCB would be top of the pile. You probably would shrugged off the Joke and move aside. Well good news for all RCB fans is that has indeed come true and the cherry on top has been that their main man has come back to his usual best.

Virat Kohli and losing tosses has been a love story for ages and Rajasthan chose to bat on a hot day. They started with sensational striking but lost way having lost Butler, Smith and Samson to an inspired field placement, terrific catching and some clever bowling. When RR lose those 3, they are effectively half their side down. However as has been the case throughout the IPL, their young guns came to the fore and took the responsibility head on. Mahipal Lomror and Rahul Tewatia aided by helps from Archer and Parag took RR to a respectable 155. Special mentions to Yuzi Chahal who was at his best again proving how important he is to the RCB bowling setup. He single handedly carries their bowling line up and rarely fails to deliver. Navdeep Saini and Isuru Udana were good support too while Zampa looked to be searching for line and length throughout.

Chahal now has 7 wickets in 4 games and holds the Purple cap at Dream 11 IPL.

RCB begin their run quest with a red hot Devdutt Padikkal on carnage. Having lost Finch early, the spotlight was heavily resting on Virat Kohli to bounce back after a string of low scores. And deliver he did. The chase tends to bring out the best in him and he anchored the innings to perfection even in the scorching heat and tough conditions. But the game had the world go gaga over the rising sensation from Karnatka, Devdutt Padikkal. He played some breathtaking shots en route to a stunning innings and departed only when the game was a one sided encounter left for Kohli and DeVilliers to finish.

Padikkal finished with a stunning 63 taking RCB to an easy victory.

For RCB supporters, it is equivalent to life support that their main man has finally taken center stage and taken his team to a comfortable victory. RCB beat RR by 8 wickets and this start would give all the loyal RCB supporters a lot of happiness going forward. It was a near perfect game for the franchise which is generally on the other side of the table by this time of the season.

Here are some key takeaways from the game:

  1. Fitness, a key in the day games: In venues like Abu Dhabi, It would be very essential for teams to up their fitness given the scorching heat and long boundaries. Running crucial doubles in the middle overs can be a difference to decide the close encounters going forward.
  2. Kohli and the toss Jinx: Virat Kohli has now lost his 16th toss in the last 20 encounters. His toss Jinx is the longest and worst toss win ratio for any captain in the IPL ever. RCB fans would be happy till the team is delivering good results with those toss outcomes.
  3. Keep it away, bowlers: Yuzi Chahal displayed a spinning masterclass by keeping the bowl away and priced out Samson with a crucial clever straight one in the process. In the scorching heat, allowing the batsman to earn the boundaries by maximum power can be a masterstroke.
