Twitter loses calm as RCB pip MI in a humdinger

By cricinsane

It was the Year 2020, the entire world was at a standstill, devastated, downed, Knocked out by sucker punches one after another. In a country spanning 1.4 billion people and half of them cricket crazy, to not have a game of cricket only meant the excitement for the IPL to skyrocket. With great expectations, it would have been not so IPL like for it to not match the noise around it. And deliver it did. Such has been the intensity and sheer magic of the last two games that it ignites one to keep reiterating the fact that IPL is the Incredible Premium league.

A league is recognized by the talent it throws to the world map. And if that is anything to go by, IPL has already dished out stars like Devdutt, Washington Sundar and Ishan Kishan into the mix in Just one single game. And that, after it dished out Samson and Tewatia the other night. Such is the magnificence of the the wonderful sport. We can spend an entire day on going long on heaving praises for this league but what we don’t want to miss is how the game last night panned out.

The RCB that showed up this year is a revamped one because despite Kohli failing, they find ways to reach a decent total. Devdutt Padikkal and Aaron Finch once again took that opening challenge head up and Padikkal showed the world that he is not the flamboyant go after everything player by displaying his calm and poise up front. Finch scored 52 and once he was dismissed, a scratchy Kohli meant Padikkal took the charge to put the feet on pedal and how. He landed some sublime hits and powered his way to 54 but when the two got out RCB was stuck at 98 in 13.3 overs. What followed was madness. An ABD on carnage, and a Dube displaying his talent in front of the fearsome bowling attack of Boult and Bumrah powered RCB to a massive total of 201. ABD was superhuman in knocking the big blows on even good deliveries and sent the entire cricketing world into shame that he does not play international cricket for the last 2 years. He is a sheer genius, an absolute magic.

It was a stunning move by Kohli to start with Sundar up front and dividends it paid. Washington Sundar and those loops and clever lengths to invite guys to hit on the longer boundaries was a delight to watch. RCB was all over MI until the 14th over. But when Boult and Bumrah were taken to cleaners, Imagine what could a Pollard and Kishan have in store against the infamous RCB bowling attack. With 80 required off 4, and with the help of two dropped catches, Pollard kept MI in the game by smashing 50 in the next 2 off Zampa and Chahal. Ishan then targeted Saini and Udana before getting out when they were a hit away. Pollard then brought out a near six to tie the game.

RCB would live to believe how this game down to this but such are the margins. The spotlight now stood shining on Saini and it was him who was absolutely insane landing the yorkers and restricting MI to 7. MI though had Bumrah who has never lost his team a Super Over. However ABD and Kohli ensured that stat changed tonight. RCB live to fight another day and in all fairness they were the better team and deserved winners on the day.

Here are some key takeaways from the game last night:

  1. Dew factor and Death overs: While bowling yorkers at the death is the pre requisite, the dew makes it very difficult to land the yorkers at the death. That explains why the death over bowling has been taken to cleaners this IPL.
  2. IPL- The Pandora Box: This IPL has been all about the Indian youngsters running for contention for the Indian Jersey. Mayank, Ishan, Samson, Sundar, Padikkal, Gill and Mavi have nominated themselves for the ultimate prize. I won’t want to be a selector at the close of this IPL.
  3. RCB and Balance finally: RCB fielded their best team forward and barring bringing in Moeen/Morris over Udana depending on situation, this is RCB’s most balanced 11 for the conditions.
