KXIP Vs DC: Delhi Capitals complete a ‘Daredevil’ Choke

By cricinsane

In what turned out to be a great advertisement of “Never Give Up” tagline, the Punjab crowd that didn’t leave the stadium after seeing Delhi require 23 off 21 with 7 wickets in hand, got thoroughly entertained seeing their home team come out trumps after almost being knocked by a rather intentless batting show. With Ashwin the skipper, surprises always find a way to happen, throwing Gayle in front of the truck this time and bringing the spotlight on Sam Curran, the opener( Let that sink. ). Both openers were dismissed cheaply and the departure of Mayank Agarwal, meant Sarfaraz and Miller had to be at rescuing mission of it all. They were both cruising along rather smoothly but with due expected to arrive, and knowing the history of chasing at Mohali, 180 was a par score and in trying to accelerate KXIP collapsed from 120/3 to 156 all out and DC were expected to sail to the destination with ease. Prithvi Shaw got out for a golden duck and Dhawan and Iyer slowly got things back on track. When both of them were dismissed, Rishabh Pant and Ingram decided to finish it early. It is not like Delhi has never been at the wrong end of cruising run chase, they are Delhi afterall. The slowly emptying PCA stadium knew the outcome was very clear and the body language of the KXIP started dropping. With the departure of Rishabh Pant and Chris Morris off consecutive deliveries, Punjab started roaring like the Lions they are portrayed as. It was still a game done and dusted for most franchises, but since it was Delhi Capitals, You can always expect the ‘Daredevils’ to show up, and they did indeed. Not to go by the name though, the Daredevil was supposed to be the same man that decimated India in England in whites. Sam Curran started a turnaround and to knock down the flood gates wide open was Mohammed Shami, who has slowly found his limited over reputation going from strength to strength. With Shami punching artillery guided storm forces and Curran following the age old “You Miss I hit” to tailenders, DC found out a score of 8/7 in it’s last 4. Sam Curran, meanwhile became the first bowler to a hattrick in IPL this year. Under the captaincy of R Ashwin though, you can still expect the superstar of this game to sit on the cost of Gayle in the next because You just do not know what is really up with the skipper that is Ashwin. They have started like they did last Year, and with a squad fully available to them for the entire IPL this time, and no shifting homes to Indore anymore, KXIP look marching on the way to pegging body blows to the real contenders that were sited before the tournament began. With Delhi though, it is hard really to tell what turns up- the Daredevils or the Capitals. DC have no major issues to address apart from the finisher’s spot to seal because it is really unfair to expect Hanuma Vihari to finish the games. The choke mode was on today and with no one turning off the collapse switch, DC look to find the right buttons, really soon. Because, it is not everyday you can claim to win Super Overs. Trust Ganguly and Ponting to inject the right ingredients into the young brigade though.
